Types of Soaps
There are many traditional methods to make soaps. At Dakota Prairie Soap Shack we currently produce soaps using the cold process method or the melt and pour method.
Cold Process
Cold process soaps are produced in small batches (10 bars) to ensure handcrafted quality and cured for 4 weeks before labeling and selling. The cold process method allows us to create recipes customized to different skin ailments by allowing the flexibility to incorporate healing herbs, extracts, powders, and oils into the soap as it forms. Custom orders can be made upon request, but please be aware that the cure time is 4 weeks to ensure safety.
Melt and Pour
Decorative soaps are hand poured and painted from high quality melt and pour soap bases that have already been cured. Shea butter, Cocoa butter, Goat's Milk, Donkey's Milk, and Aloe Vera are all different types of melt and pour bases that we use when crafting decorative soaps. Melt and Pour allows for few ingredients to be added as the soap has already formed, but at the same time gives us control over the shapes, colors, and fragrances.
